Friday Fun - Small Town Edition

Friday Fun - Small Town Edition...

It's been a few more weeks of the new normal and I thought it might be time for a little distraction! First off, I know these are trying times. I hope all of you are safe and healthy. If you have been touched by COVID-19 in some way, you have my thoughts and prayers for smooth road back to recovery, whether it's physically, emotionally, mentally or financially.  If you're serving on the front lines of the fight you have my thanks for everything you're doing!
As a fiction writer, my specialty is offering readers distraction and escape - it may not be much, but it's what I've got. That's what the Friday Fun is all about - a little trivia based distraction with the chance to win a prize.

What's happening around the Barn Without a Farm

As a writer, I'm a bit of an introvert and I spend long periods of time alone, in my home office, pecking away.  Being under a stay-at-home directive is bit like business of usual for me. But I am not used to having the kids around, doing their remote learning or my husband home all day on conference calls.  I've given up my own "office", and worked in the kitchen to be close to the kids when they need help. It also means I'm close to the snacks, which has both its advantages and disadvantages.

While I miss "A Room of One's Own" it's been nice to eat lunch AND dinner together. I've gotten a lot of help with dessert making, and even occasionally, a whole meal. There's been no rushing off to after-school activities, and no fights about getting ready for them.

There's been no logistical insanity around having to be in three places at once AND the dogs are insanely happy to be walked five times a day - even if it's only for few yards (she's a Shih Tzu and has short legs).

I've always been a fan of the small town vibe and now more than ever I appreciate the fact that I live in a neighborhood where the neighbors are close enough to have a patio-to-patio conversation.

In normal times, as neighbors we share things - sugar and eggs, but also power tools and kid watching. It's these connections that help us get through the good, the bad and the ugly.  I'm pretty sure that's why stories set in small towns are so popular :)

And that brings me today's giveaway. The theme  is one of pop culture's most famous small towns. Not Mayberry, Peyton Place or even Walnut Creek, but rather Twin Peaks. Twin Peaks the TV show turned thirty this week and it made small towns cool again. Twin Peaks was weird, odd, sexy, and dark, AND all the world wanted to know WHO KILLED LAURA PALMER!

So to celebrate small towns and have a little fun, check out the Friday Fun Trivia Contest on the blog and see how well you know your small town trivia.
